Which Zhangjiajie ticket do you actually need?

The three areas below are run by different operators, sell their own admission and sit in different places on the map. Nothing you buy at one is valid at another.

What the three zones actually are

The national forest park is the one people picture: the sandstone pillars, Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, the Bailong Elevator, Ten-Mile Gallery. It is the largest of the three by a wide margin and the only one where admission itself comes in two versions, because the shuttle bus that connects its sections was separated from the gate ticket at the start of 2025. Tianmen Mountain is a single mountain directly above Zhangjiajie city, with the cable car, the glass walkways and the staircase to the cave. It is a different scenic area entirely, roughly thirty kilometres from the forest park. Visitors confuse it with Tianzi Mountain, which is inside the forest park and has nothing to do with it. The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon holds the glass bridge. It is in another county under another operator, and it is the zone most often assumed to be part of the park. Its ticketing is here.

What no ticket includes

Everything that carries you.

• Cable cars, in all three zones.
• The Bailong Elevator.
• The Ten-Mile Gallery tram.
• The park shuttle bus, unless you bought the version of forest park admission that contains it.

All of these are sold one direction at a time. Doubling a one-way fare is usually the wrong estimate anyway, because the standard routes are asymmetric: up by one lift, down by another, or down on foot.

Two more paid areas sit inside Wulingyuan and catch people out regularly: Huanglong Cave and Baofeng Lake. Both are inside the wider scenic area, both charge their own admission, and neither is covered by a forest park ticket.

Where the money actually goes

Admission is rarely the largest line. On a normal two-day forest park visit the lifts together cost more than the gate ticket, and on Tianmen the cable car is the main expense rather than the entry fee.

That matters for how you compare prices. A listing that looks cheaper than the official gate price is either a different product or a different scenic area — gate prices are set by provincial and municipal pricing decisions, so nobody is undercutting them. What booking platforms actually sell is the bundle around the ticket: transport, a guide, the lifts, skip-the-queue handling.

Before you buy anything

Settle two questions first, because both change which ticket you need:

• Which zones you are visiting at all. Most itineraries do the forest park and one other, not all three.
• Which gate you enter from, for the forest park specifically. Entering at the northern Tianzishan gate reaches Tianzi Mountain, Yangjiajie and Yuanjiajie by shuttle alone, with no cable car and no elevator fare.
